   FORTEGE AN AYURVEDIC NONHORMONAL DRUG

IN THE MANAGEMENT OF MENOPAUSAL SYMPTOMS

"Sixty patients suffering from menopausal symptoms were taken up for this study. These included 20 patients of the premenopausal group, 30 patients of the menopausal group and 10 patients of premature menopause caused by hysterectomy."                                                                                                                                                                                                             

"Fortege an Ayurvedic nonhormonal drug was selected for this clinical trial. Fortege 2 tabs tds was given to all patients for 41 months ( one course of 1.5 month. Total three courses), Those patients who did not get relief even after 41 months of Fortege treatment, were classified as Poor response,"                                                                                                                                                                                                               

                                                                                               
CONCLUSIONS :                                                                                                                                                                                        

1, Fortege treatment in menopausal symptoms gave excellent relief in majority of the patients (90%). 3 patients (5%) had moderate relief and 3 patients (5%) had no relief. These 6 patients belonged to Menopausal Group.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

2. Cases of menopause symptoms in patients who 'had hysterectomy got relief with 1.5 months of Fortege treatment. Majority of cases of the Premenopausal and Menopausal Groups got relief with three months of Fortege treatment.                                                                                                                                                                                                       

3, There was remarkable relief from fatigue, irritable temper, back-ache, hot flushes, emotional upets, sleep disturbance etc. Patients felt refreshed mentally and physically and there was a sense of well being.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

4, Libido was restored and the woman took interest in normal sex life.                                                                                                                                                              

5, Fortege is found to be a safe drug without side effects. Requires no special tests during administration. No risks as seen with the hormonal treatment.                                                                                                                

6. In a follow-up of 4-6 months, no recurrence was seen except in one case belonging to the post-hysterectomy Group who came back with the complaint of hot flushes. Earlier she had relief with 1.5 months of Fortege treatment. This recurrence was treated with Fortege and she again got relief within 11 months.                                                                                                                                                                                                              

                                                                       

7. Fortege can be used for a prolonged period or as and when necessary, because of its safety"
